  The temple is one of 51 Shakti Peeth located throughout the Indian subcontinent and is dedicated to Goddess Sati. A yajna was planned by King Daksha, Lord Shiva's father-in-law, according to religious texts. In which, King Daksha didn't invite Lord Shiva and Mother Sati, his daughter, because he didn't think Lord Shiva was equal to him. Goddess Sati felt terrible when she heard about it, so she decided to go there in yajna without being invited.  Mata Sati jumped into the Havan Kund after King Daksha insulted Lord Shiva at the yajna site, which she could not bear. After learning about this, Lord Shiva traveled to Havan Kund, exhumed Goddess Sati's body, and began performing Tandava, or the dance of destruction, which shook the entire universe. In order to protect the world from Lord Shiva's wrath, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to divide Goddess Sati's body into 51 parts .
